KJ Rauch

KJ Rauch plans to work as an occupational therapist in an acute rehabilitation unit at a hospital. When she isn't studying, KJ enjoys finding recipes on Pinterest, going to concerts and sporting events, watching Netflix, and spending time with friends and family.

Personal experiences lead KJ Rauch to kinesiology

Two personal healthcare experiences led KJ Rauch to study kinesiology.

KJ always knew she wanted to work in a healthcare field where every day of her job would be different, but she wasn’t sure what specific path she wanted to take. After experiencing a shoulder injury and watching her mother recover from a hip replacement surgery, she discovered the field of occupational therapy.

“I liked the opportunity to help people immediately after surgery. That inspired me,” KJ said. “That sense of being able to give them tools so that they can go home is really appealing to me.”

Watching her mother’s experience with an occupational therapist showed her how much she could impact others through her work.

“I could help someone transition back to a normal life at home with their loved ones,” KJ said.

A junior in kinesiology with a pre-health professions option, KJ has her eyes set on graduate school. In the meantime, KJ stays involved on campus in a number of ways. One way is by serving as a College of Human Sciences Ambassador.

“Our job as ambassadors is to help kids figure out what they want to do,” said KJ. “We give them all the information that they need to make the best decision possible.”

The Human Sciences Ambassadors meet with prospective students and assist with college functions. KJ enjoys informing students about the kinesiology program and the quality of the education that she has received during her time here.

“It’s good to know that your professors are experts in the field,” KJ said. “You feel like you’re getting the best information possible.”

While KJ continues preparing for grad school and working towards graduation, she is regularly reminded why she chose this path to begin with.

“The thing I like about this field is there’s a lot of different settings you can go into,” KJ said. “I just like the field so much.”
