I was responsible for...
My primary responsibilities were explaining/demonstrating workouts, conducting functional movement screens, creating the daily workout, and maintaining the facility.

I accomplished...
I gained the knowledge and confidence to lead large group fitness classes on my own, analyze client movement patterns with the Functional Movement Screen, and got over my fears of children with the Kid Ninja program.

My most valuable effort...
The best part of the internship was leading classes. It was great public speaking experience, it put my all my kinesiology knowledge to the test, and was lots of fun working with all the clients

I learned...
The most valuable learning experience I had, was working with the kids programming in Surefire's Kid Ninja. In general, kids stress me out. The exposure of working with tons of kids at a time and working my hardest to make sure they had fun helped me learn that I can work with and be successful with a young client.

I will never forget...
When a client pulled me aside from class and told me that I was one of the reasons they kept coming back to Surefire and how much they appreciated the effort I took to help them get over their initial fears/insecurities.

A surprising discovery...
I was surprised by how much fun I had. I've worked at other gyms before and never enjoyed it this much. I think that speaks volumes to how important it is to work somewhere that has the same values and beliefs about training and exercise that you do.

Advice for others...
Ask questions and let your desired learning outcomes known. The Surefire staff does a great job in making sure you are learning and getting the experiences you are interested in.

I first learned about this career-building experience from...
I used to work with the owner as a client several years ago and knew he looks for interns each semester.

I landed this assignment by...
I spoke with the owner, Jeff, and talked about what I was interested in and what he and Surefire could provide for a potential intern.

I wanted this experience because...
It is a small business so I could be exposed to a wide variety of learning experiences.
