I was responsible for...
As an intern at Equinox we were exposed to the many facets of personal training, client interaction, and the business that equinox runs. Some of the activities I accomplished or performed were: sitting in on personal training program meetings between trainers and the manager's, weekly sales meetings to help trainers learn how to effectively market and sell themselves and their business. I worked with the other interns learning Equifit processes ( the Equinox fitness assessment), proper client stretches and ROM assessments, FMS screening process, and worked on a special project that I presented to the managers. The topic of my special project was “Department Integration”. I also came up with multiple workout regimens for members of the club that I befriended and helped teach them new movements involving objects they were unfamiliar with (kettlebells, Vipers).
My greatest accomplishment has been learning the personal training business principles. These were new things that I didn't previously have experience in. I learned how to successfully market myself and grow and accrue a client base.
My greatest lesson that I learned was to be open to trying new things and putting yourself out there. I found that by stepping out of my shell, I gained more experience and enjoyed the learning process a lot more.
Advice for others...
Keep your mind open and always be willing to work hard. Sometimes finding an internship can be difficult, but if you approach it with a good attitude you can network and open excellent doors for yourself.
