Health Promotion and Exercise Lab

Located in room 279A Forker Building, coordinated by Dr. Greg Welk. The lab is equipped with a variety of accelerometry-based physical activity monitors including MTI Actigraph (n = 30), BiotrainerPro (n = 90), Sensewear Pro armband (n=10), Actical (n=10), and an IDEEA monitor (n = 1). Other equipment include a Monark exercise equipment, bioelectric impedance analyzers and skinfold calipers for body composition assessment. A variety of health promotion software applications are also housed in the lab and used for different applications (research, teaching and service). The equipment is run on a network of computers to facilitate data processing and analyses. The computers included SPSS, SAS and MedCalc for statistical analyses and Reference Manager 10.0 software for management of scientific references. Dr. Welk’s main area of research is on the assessment and promotion of physical activity in both children and adults.
