Research Interests My current research interests include studies in metabolic adaptations of muscle in aging and nutritional factors affecting fluid homeostasis and exercise tolerance. I have published 65 articles in scientific journals, 5 book chapters, 28 articles in coaching and athlete magazines, and given over 100 invited presentations in the US and abroad. I am a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine, a Fellow of the American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education, and recipient of the Iowa Board of Regents Award for Faculty Excellence. Teaching I teach graduate classes including HHP 505 - Research Laboratory Techniques in Exercise Physiology, HHP 550 - Advanced Exercise Physiology I, HHP 551 - Advanced Exercise Physiology II. Service/Outreach/Professional Activity In addition to maintaining Fellow status in both AAKPE and ACSM, I serve on scientific advisory panels for Campbell Soup Company and Speedo International Ltd. My past involvement in competitive swimming both as a former coach and later as a researcher has led to active involvement in coaches education, particularly as a frequent speaker at coaches clinics. |
