Admission to the M.S. Program in Kinesiology

To be admitted into the M.S. program in Kinesiology, the following steps must be completed:

First: Complete the Graduate College Application and Department Information Sheet.

Graduate College Application (US) OR Graduate College Application (International)
The application for admission into the ISU Graduate College may be obtained from the internet. This application packet will require 1) completed application form, 2) application fee, 3) transcripts of previous degree coursework, and 4) submission of recent GRE scores. For international applicants, the application packet also needs to include 5) official TOEFL scores and 6) a financial statement.

Department Information Sheet
In addition to application to the Graduate College, prospective students must also fill out the Department Information Sheet. This Information Sheet serves as pre-screening tool for the department to use in making recommendations for admission. The materials should include 1) completed Information Sheet, 2) three letters of recommendation, preferably from individuals who can address the applicant's academic abilities, 3) a statement of purpose which describes the applicant's rationale for pursuing a graduate degree within the department of Kinesiology, (4) a curriculum vitae or resume.

Second: Complete the Graduate Assistantship Application

Third: Wait for Department of Kinesiology notification.

Once the application materials have been received, they will be compiled into a packet for review by faculty in the Department. Faculty are asked to evaluate each applicant using all the information available, including transcripts, GRE scores, TOEFL scores (if applicable), letters of recommendation, the applicant's statement of purpose, and the curriculum vitae or resume. The relative weight given to each of these components varies by faculty member. However, virtually all students accepted in recent years had grade point averages well above 3.0 (on a 4 point scale), GRE scores of at least 1000 (combined Verbal and Quantitative) and a GRE Analytical score of 4.0 or better.

If you have other questions please consult the Kinesiology Graduate Handbook . For additional questions, please contact the Kinesiology Graduate Coordinator for more information.
