Performing and choreographing opportunities are provided through Iowa State's three dance groups:
- Dance Company/Orchesis I
- Orchesis II
- Iowa State University Tour Company
Because much of the dance activity at ISU is organized through these groups, students have tremendous input and a responsibility for shaping their own movement experiences.
These clubs promote interest and activity in dance as a creative art form, and members can be involved in all aspects of production including:
They also provide a strong sense of teamwork and community, which balances the sometimes impersonal atmosphere of a large university.
Orchesis I holds open auditions in both fall and spring. This student organization specializes in aspects of professional dance training. The company was established in 1926 as Iowa State's first dance group. We encourage all students to come and become dancers who are open to change, growth, and development with their dancing and performing. Orchesis I represents Iowa State University at the American College Dance Conference with adjudicated choreographic entries from our students and visiting artists. Come join us! The group is the producing agency for our annual dance gala Barjche as well as a spring studio showing of original choreography.
Meeting times: Thursday at 7 p.m. - 9 p.m., Forker 196 Toman Studio Theatre
Orchesis II is a non-audition dance company in which all individuals are welcome to participate regardless of their experience in dance training. Orchesis II strives to enhance a comfortable learning environment by providing performance opportunities for members. Orchesis II works in many genres of dance including tap, hip-hop, modern, jazz, Latin, and many, many others.
