Dance 120 Modern Dance I Introduction to modern dance and practice of basic dance concepts, techniques, and creative activities.
Dance 130 Ballet I Introduction to the basic skills, vocabulary, and tradition of ballet. Concentration on control and proper alignment.
Dance 140 Jazz I Survey of the jazz dance style with concentration on proper body technique.
Dance 150 Tap Dance Instruction and practice in basic tap technique and terminology.
Dance 199 Dance Continuum Continued instruction and practice in modern dance, recreational dance, ballet, jazz, and/or compositional skills. Offered on a satisfactory/fail basis only with a maximum of six credits. Must register in advance and have permission of the instructor.
Dance 211 Folk, Social, and Square Dance Instruction and practice in various international folk dances including American square dance. Instruction and practice in foxtrot, waltz, swing, cha cha, rhumba, tango, and selected contemporary dance.
Dance 220 Modern Dance Composition Theory and practice of the creative skills involved in solo and small group composition.
Dance 222 Modern Dance II Continued experience in dance techniques emphasizing strength, balance, and endurance with emphasis placed on rhythmic accuity and extended combinations. Some repertory work.
Dance 223 Modern Dance III Instruction and practice in modern dance techniques and extended combinations. Emphasis is placed on maturation of skill and artistry. Exposure to a variety of modern dance techniques.
Dance 224 Concert and Theatre Dance Choreography, rehearsal, and performance in dance concerts and/or musical theatre productions.
Dance 232 Ballet II Continuing practice on technical skills in the classical movement vocabulary. Emphasis on alignment, technique, sequence development, and performing quality.
Dance 233 Ballet III Concentration on technical proficiency and artistry at the intermediate level. Pointe work and partnering encouraged.
Dance 242 Jazz II Development of dance concepts within the jazz idiom. Instruction in extended movement sequences and artistic interpretation.
Dance 243 Jazz III Integration of the concepts of jazz dynamics, phrasing, and skills into performance situations. Some repertory work of historical and contemporary pieces.
Dance 270 Dance Appreciation A lecture course introducing dance as an art form. The emphasis is on the ability to analyze and appreciate various dance styles.
Dance 320 Sound and Movement A composition class providing choreographic experiences with rhythmic and non-rhythmic sounds and scores.
Dance 370 Advanced Studies in Dance Group and/or independent study in the special interests and talents of students in various aspects of dance as a performing art, including production, choreography, and performance.
Dance 384 Teaching Children's Dance Instruction and practice in the teaching of a comprehensive dance program at the elementary level. Emphasis on theories and the practice of guiding expressive movement experiences.
Dance 385 Methods of Teaching Dance Instruction in the methods and techniques of teaching recreational dance forms. Introductory analysis to teaching educational modern dance.
Dance 386 Teaching Dance Technique and Composition Teaching of dance as an experience art form with emphasis on technique, rhythm and the creative teaching process. Prerequisite: Dance 320
Dance 490 Independent Study Independent study of problems in areas of interest to the advanced student in the field of dance.
