I was responsible for...
Observation of the Physical Therapist and Physical Therapy Assistant during initial evaluations, injury testing, intervention programming in the clinic, building relationships with the patients, administering ultrasounds, instructing patients through exercises while in the clinic as well as ones to complete at home, and assist with the formation of printed home exercise programs.
It think the biggest accomplishment of my time at Physio was the amount of knowledge I learned about the rehabilitation process with exercise. Everyday there is something new to learn from the therapists whether it is a new injury to learn about or another technique for treating the same type of injury.
The most valuable lesson I learned while at Physio is when working with rehab patients, always have a back up plan and be ready to come up with a different plan of action on a whim. Not every patient can do the same exercises as another patient with the same injury. Even if you think a patient will be able to do an exercise or be able to do it pain free, they may not be able to, so you need to be ready to go a different direction if something like that happens.
Advice for others...
My advice for students looking to do an internship in this field is to be ready to observe and learn. The majority of the internship you will be watching and taking direction from the therapists and be ready to ask a lot of questions. The more questions you ask, the more you will learn and be able to implement that knowledge in your future careers.
