I was responsible for...
There are three sections to my Community/Public Health internship with the American Diabetes Association: Tour de Cure, manage social media platforms for Minnesota Region, and assist with general office functions. The first section, Tour de Cure, is an annual event that I assisted the develop director with Retention Acquisition Management (RAM) and other diverse tasks. The second section required me to manage both the Facebook and Twitter page for the Minnesota, Wisconsin and North Dakota Region. I would post three times per week with content regarding everything diabetes and managing corporate sponsorship advertisements. The third and last were general office tasks such as: recording daily cash receipts, send out mail, and working on diverse projects through the ADA's MIS software.
My greatest accomplishment from my internship would be the confidence and self-efficacy gained working with professionals and constituents. The ADA gave me every opportunity to grow as a professional, allowing me to attend executive meetings, board meetings, and wellness fairs.
Working for the ADA taught me that a team that works well together succeeds together. Being consistent and positive is key to become a successful professional.
Advice for others...
There are three things that I want to stress: Stay consistent, reliable, and never procrastinate. Students have the option to skip classes and procrastinate until the last second, which is far from your future professional career.
