I was responsible for...
I observed the therapists, as well as assisted in exercises with patients. I helped keep the clinic clean and was responsible for doing the laundry (towels, pillowcases, etc.). I was able to lead patients through strengthening exercises, and I performed ultrasounds.
I learned how to communicate in a professional setting, and I learned so much about the field of occupational therapy. I loved getting to work with the therapists and ask any questions I had about treatment or background knowledge on injuries.
To be a great occupational therapist, you need to truly care about people and be able to have patience and work with others. Communication with others in the workplace is also very important.
Advice for others...
Start looking for your internship early! I was able to secure my internship a year in advance and it took a lot of stress away knowing that I had it all set up in advance.
