I was responsible for...
I was responsible for things such as taking exercising/resting BP's, EKG monitoring, and creating exercise prescriptions for the cardiac rehab patients. I was also responsible for leading the Heathy Aging: Strength & Balance classes, which focused on exercises that correlate to Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). I was also able to perform duties in Phase I cardiac rehab such as: assisting patients out of bed, educating patients about why they had their cardiac event, and walking/exercising patients through the hall (hall-walks).
My greatest accomplishment during my internship was actually being able to see the rehabilitation process of the cardiac rehab patients. I got to help patients go from poor condition to excellent condition. It's a great feeling when you've positevly impacted someone's life.
The greatest lesson I learned from my experience is not to be afraid to try again if you make a mistake. Mistakes are how we learn, and they'll never be corrected if we don't practice.
Advice for others...
I would advise that you all choose an internship that you are passionate about. It is important that you stay motivated throughout the course of your internship. Be sure relate it to your desired career so that you have an idea of what to expect. Make sure that you introduce yourself to everyone new that you meet. It shows that you are happy to be where you are and it makes the clients/guests feel welcomed. Lastly, be on time!
