I was responsible for...
1. Supervise a resistance exercise training intervention in older adults. This includes collecting data on weight and reps performed. This also includes working alongside and assisting the study interventionist. 2. Take CITI training biomedical courses to gain IRB approval. This is necessary to be able to work with human participants. 3. Familiarization with research protocol to ensure it lines up with the manual of operations and procedures. 4. Facilitate communication between participants and research personnel working on the study. 5. Present a health-related topic of interest to an older population. 6. Interact with DMU students, researchers, and professors and participate in additional studies and experiments. 7. Manually check the participant's RHR and blood pressure before every exercise session. 8. Data analysis of various experiments and studies including: HRV, VOP, IPC, Tyrosine, and LSCI.
I feel that my greatest accomplishment was gaining IRB approval by completing the CITI training courses. This was a crucial step because it ensured my acceptance to be able to assist with human participants during experiments and studies.
I learned that I enjoy working with older adults, especially when they make progress quickly and get overjoyed. This also makes them want to come back again and again and continue to improve their health. I also learned to push people to accomplish their goals in order to motivate them to exercise.
