I was responsible for...
As an intern, your main job is to teach group fitness classes such as: Cardio: Treading (treadmill classes) Strength: Ultra circuit (circuit training) Aquatic: Hydro circuit, aqua tabata Stretching: Hour long stretching sessions, foam rolling, hip and shoulder mobility using lacrosse balls. Recreation: Beach walks with guests, occasional kayak/stand up paddle board, and movie trips. (yes, seriously!) You also get to assist in instructing classes such as cardio boxing, "lose well" group training sessions, recovery sessions like PNF stretching and "rolling out" guests with special tools. Take measurements and weights of guests before and after their time here. You have the option to present an informational lecture of your choice to guests. H3 really wants you to progress as much as possible.
The confidence that comes with becoming comfortable with teaching any group/personal fitness class. It is a confidence booster to know I was able to perform in a "real world" scenario. Helping improve guest's mobility and fitness. To me this also means improving their quality of life. Improving other's quality of life is a great accomplishment.
Don't underestimate the positive impact you can make on someone through improving their health/fitness/mobility. You can greatly benefit people's daily life and how they feel.
Advice for others...
Be empathetic and encouraging. In my experience, most people are stepping out of their comfort zone when starting or re-starting incorporating exercise into their weekly routines. Be knowledgeable of course, but also be welcoming and work WITH clients.
