International Scholar Visits Kinesiology Department Again
Dr. Bruce Elliott, Professor and Head of the School of Human Movement and Exercise Science at the University of Western Australia, was an invited visitor once again to the Iowa State campus August 21-25. Dr. Elliott previously visited Iowa State when he was named as the Pease Family Scholar for 2000, when he offered a presentation regarding the research and measurements conducted during the Sydney Olympic Games.
Dr. Elliott made a presentation entitled, The Role of Biomechanics in the Prevention and Reduction of Injury, on August 22nd in the Barbara E. Forker Building. Dr. Elliott works with tennis athletes in his research and was in the United States to work with the U.S. Open. Dr. Elliott has published over 160 articles in internationally refereed journals, and has written or edited 13 books and 33 book chapters. He was the inaugural chair of the Western Australian Institute of Sport (1984-1994), inaugural Vice-President (sports science) in the Australian Association of Exercise and Sports Science (1993-1995) and is a fellow of Sports Medicine Australia, the Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation, the International Society of Sport Biomechanics and the American Association of Kinesiology and Physical Education. He was appointed by the IOC to Chair for the 5th IOC World Congress on Sport Sciences for the 2000 Sydney Olympics and was responsible for administering the Applied Projects at those Olympics.
